Aultmore 15-Year-Old Sweet Marsala Cask Finish is part of the Marsala Wine Cask Collection from this Speyside distillery. The whisky matured for 15 years in American oak casks, and was finally finished for approximately 6 months in casks that previously held Sweet Marsala Superiore Ambra Secco – a sweet style of Sicilian Marsala wine.
The aroma reveals notes of mandarin, honeyed fruit, figs, and nuts – particularly walnuts. The base features a gentle sweetness, honey, vanilla, and a touch of herbs, which Aultmore typically brings. The finish in sweet marsala casks adds a winey, sweet-fruity accent that enriches the whisky's character without overwhelming it.
On the palate, this whisky is velvety, with a complex fruity profile: candied fruit, figs, mandarin, vanilla, and honey, with subtle tannins and a medium dose of oak. The sweetness is pronounced but well-balanced with the drier wine elements of the marsala. Spicy, nutty notes (e.g., walnuts) and a honeyed touch add depth.
We recommend serving it best neat at room temperature, in a suitable whisky glass (Glencairn), perhaps with a few drops of water to release the wine and fruit layers. It also shines as a digestif, or with desserts – especially those with fruit or nuts.
