Aultmore Ruby Marsala Cask 15 Year Old
Pronunciation: {Olt-mór}The limited edition single malt whisky Aultmore Ruby Marsala Cask Finish comes from the Scottish region of Speyside. The whisky is aged for 15 years – initially in American white oak barrels and, at the end of the maturation process, it is stored for six months in barrels that previously held Ruby Marsala Rubino Dolce wine from Italy.
The result is an elegant whisky that combines the smoothness of the classic Aultmore profile with interesting wine/fruit tones.
The color is a shiny amber whisky with honey and golden highlights, suggesting maturity and sweet tones. The aroma is dominated by red fruits: cherries, plums, perhaps pomegranate, supported by subtle spices, vanilla, and oak. Ruby Marsala barrels also add tannins and a wine accent that blends with sweet malt and honey.
The taste is rich and fruity, with the sweetness of cherries and plums, lingering mild acidity and the winey character of Marsala. It is accompanied by notes of honey, vanilla, and subtle spices - especially white pepper, perhaps a pinch of cinnamon. Notes of nuts or lightly toasted wood may come through in the background, adding complexity.
The 46 % alcohol content is well integrated—strong enough to give the whiskey body, but not overly aggressive.
We recommend serving it ideally neat, at room temperature in a glass (e.g., Glencairn) to allow the aroma to develop; a few drops of water can help open up the wine and fruit notes. It also works well as a digestif or for quiet tasting. It can also be an interesting accompaniment to dark chocolate or dried fruit.
