Aberfeldy 21 Year Old

Aberfeldy 21 Year Old is the pinnacle edition in the Aberfeldy distillery portfolio (Highlands), representing the maturity, complexity, and delicate character of this brand.

This whisky is crafted from carefully selected casks that have aged for a minimum of 21 years. As the producer claims, a harmonious combination of refill and re-charred casks is used – an ideal blend of bourbon casks and sherry casks, which complement the delicate notes of vanilla and oak influence. After so many years in wood, the distillate absorbs the character of the cask more deeply, contributing to a silky complexity and richness of flavor.

The aroma reveals a pronounced heather honey, dried fruit, vanilla, floral notes and a hint of toasted coconut. 

On the palate, a creamy texture dominates with notes of dried fruit (raisins), candied orange peel, almonds, caramel and a touch of gentle smoke. The finish is quite long, with the presence of beeswax, oak, orange, and a hint of fine wood structure.

Best enjoyed neat, at room temperature. Some connoisseurs add a very fine drop of water, which can open up layers of dried fruit and honey without losing its delicacy. Due to its rich structure, it is more suited for evening sipping rather than after a meal.
