Aberfeldy 21 Year Old
Pronunciation: {Aber-feldi}Aberfeldy 21 Year Old is the pinnacle edition in the Aberfeldy distillery’s (Highlands) portfolio, representing maturity, complexity, and the refined character of this brand.
This whisky is crafted from carefully selected casks that have matured for at least 21 years. According to the producer, a harmonious combination of refill and re-char casks is used – an ideal blend of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, complementing subtle vanilla notes and the influence of oak. After so many years in wood, the spirit absorbs the cask’s character more deeply, contributing to its silky complexity and richness of flavor.
On the nose, prominent heather honey appears, along with dried fruit, vanilla, floral tones, and a hint of toasted coconut.
On the palate, a creamy texture dominates, with notes of dried fruit (raisins), candied orange peel, almonds, caramel, and a touch of gentle smoke. The finish is fairly long, with beeswax, oak, orange, and a subtle presence of refined wood structure.
It is best enjoyed neat at room temperature. Some connoisseurs add just a tiny drop of water, which can open up layers of dried fruit and honey without losing delicacy. Thanks to its rich structure, it is more suitable for evening sipping rather than as an after-dinner dram.
