The name is inspired by ancient mythology and comes from the Pillars of Hercules near the Strait of Gibraltar, which mark the boundaries of the known world. These pillars bore the Latin inscription "Non Plus Ultra" (translated as “nothing further”) as a warning to sailors not to venture into the unknown world.

Today, this name is exclusively held by the best and most exceptional rum produced by the A.H. Riise brand. Inside a beautifully faceted decanter is ultra premium rum, which is a true masterpiece of the Master Distiller and can only be made from the best drops of the highest class rum from the oldest and most exceptional casks of A.H. Riise. Therefore, it is available only in limited quantities, with only 3000 bottles produced each year.
