Jim Beam Black Extra Aged
Jim Beam Black Extra Aged is a premium bourbon from Kentucky that aims to take the classic Jim Beam to the next level by allowing the drink to age longer in oak barrels, giving it a deeper character.
The production process uses the traditional ‘sour mash’ technique typical of the Beam brand and a basic grain mixture (mainly corn, with malt and a little rye). The bourbon is then aged in new, charred American white oak barrels. The Extra Aged version is apparently aged longer than the standard minimum period, which gives it greater complexity and body.
The aroma opens with notes of burnt oak, intertwined with caramel, vanilla and sweet confectionery.
The taste is dominated by sweet caramel and corn, with spicy accents, a touch of warm oak and a subtle hint of fruit. The finish is medium-long, warm, with a lingering oak note and sweetness.
This bourbon is best served neat or on ice, or in cocktails where you want the bourbon to have a more pronounced presence. Thanks to its deeper body, it pairs well with dark chocolate, nuts or smoked flavours.
