Jim Beam Black Extra Aged is a premium bourbon from Kentucky that aims to elevate the classic Jim Beam to a higher league - by allowing the spirit to age longer in oak barrels, gaining a deeper character.
The production uses the traditional “sour mash” technique, typical for the Beam brand, and a base grain blend (primarily corn, with malt and a touch of rye). The bourbon then ages in new, charred American white oak barrels. The Extra Aged version is likely aged longer than the standard minimum period, which adds greater complexity and body.
On the nose, it opens with notes of charred oak, intertwined with caramel, vanilla, and sweet confections.
On the palate, sweet caramel and corn notes dominate, with spicy accents, a touch of warm oak wood, and a subtle fruity trace. The finish is medium-long, warming, with a lingering oak essence and sweetness.
This bourbon is best served neat or on the rocks, or in cocktails where you want the bourbon to have a more pronounced presence. Thanks to its deeper body, it pairs well with dark chocolate, nuts, or smoky flavors.
