Four Roses is a bourbon made from traditional ingredients in the heart of the American state of Kentucky, in the city of Lawrencenburg, which is known for its rich bourbon-making tradition. Four Roses has a long history dating back to 1888 and is one of the most respected bourbon brands in the world.
Four Roses uses two different mash bills to produce its bourbons. One mash bill contains a higher percentage of corn, which gives the bourbon a sweeter and smoother flavor, while the other mash bill contains more rye, which contributes to a spicy and peppery taste. The grain mash is then mixed with limestone water and yeast, starting the fermentation process where sugars are converted into alcohol.
The fermented mash is distilled in column stills, which allows for the separation of alcohol from other components and achieves a higher purity. The alcohol content at bottling is 40%.
Four Roses bourbon is aged in new American oak barrels, where it matures. The bourbon ages for an average of at least 5 to 7 years.
