El Ron Prohibido Reserva 22
El Ron Prohibido Reserva 22 is an ultra-premium rum from Mexico distilled from molasses from a sugar cane hacienda that also produces tequila. The name recalls the times in the 18th century when the Spanish kingdom banned Mexican rum because it overshadowed local spirits.
The rum El Ron Prohibido Reserva 22 was distilled in columns and aged using the solera method in 22 old bourbon barrels. This technique, borrowed from Andalusian wine producers, allows for blending rums of different ages during the aging process. Some barrels are filled with pecan and almond shells, as well as peaches from the Mexican state of Zacatecas. The rest contains Guarapo. Guarapo is juice extracted from sugar cane immediately after harvesting during the milling process and forms the base of the rum Ron Reserva 22.
