Don Andrés Brugal Montaner left his home country of Spain to seek wealth in the Caribbean. After learning the craft of rum production in Cuba, he moved to the Dominican Republic around 1855, specifically to Puerto Plata. In this city, Brugal rums continue to age to this day.
After several years, he managed to develop a production process that ensures consistent quality of the rum. This secret is now passed down from generation to generation.
