Brugal is among the most important producers of rum in the Dominican Republic and ranks among the world’s leading rum brands. Together with Barceló and Bermúdez, Brugal forms the so-called “Three Bs” – a trio of key producers of Dominican rum that define the country’s style and reputation on the international market.

Brugal rum production

Brugal rum is produced by Brugal & Co., which operates three distilleries – one in Puerto Plata and two in San Pedro de Macorís. The combination of modern technology, local raw materials, and decades of experience allows the brand to maintain a consistent flavour profile across its portfolio.

Today, Brugal is regarded as the third-largest rum producer in the world.

Most famous Brugal rums and a brand highlight

Among the brand’s most popular products is Brugal 1888, a premium rum matured using a double ageing system – first in American bourbon barrels and then in sherry casks. Another standout expression in the portfolio is Brugal Extra Viejo, a longer-aged rum with a richer profile, primarily intended for sipping neat.

A notable characteristic of the Brugal brand is its long-standing focus on a drier rum style without excessive sweetness, setting it apart from many sweeter Caribbean rums.
