Ouzo 12
Ouzo 12 is a traditional Greek anise liqueur with a history dating back to 1880. This iconic drink is among the most famous Greek distillates and is particularly loved for its distinctive aroma and bold flavor.
The name "12" comes from the historic barrel number 12, which contained a distillate considered to be of exceptional quality. This barrel became a symbol of the unique quality and character of the Ouzo 12 brand.
The production involves double distillation, using carefully selected seeds and aromatic spices. The dominant ingredient is anise, which gives the drink its characteristic sweet-herbaceous aroma and strong flavor. The result is a distillate with a harmonious and fresh character, reminiscent to many of the taste of familiar anise candies (cough drops).
Ouzo 12 is traditionally served with ice or with water, causing the drink to turn a milky color – typical for anise distillates. In Greece, it is often served as an aperitif or as part of social gatherings, especially in combination with small dishes called meze.
