Luxardo Sambuca dei Cesari
Luxardo Sambuca dei Cesari is a premium Italian anise liqueur distinguished by the high quality of its ingredients, traditional family recipe, and exceptionally rich flavour.
The base of this liqueur consists of star anise sourced from China, herbs and spices, pure volcanic water from Luxardo’s springs, alcohol, and sugar – all blended according to the original family recipe. The producer emphasizes that the liqueur is still made following the same time-honoured process, combining premium raw materials with modern production methods.
The liqueur contains 38 % ABV. During production, essential oils from star anise are extracted through steam distillation, followed by maceration in alcohol and maturation in Finnish ash wood casks for about six months, which contributes to its smooth consistency and balanced texture.
In terms of flavour, Sambuca dei Cesari has a crystal-clear appearance and an intensely aromatic bouquet dominated by anise and sweet liquorice, complemented by delicate herbal and citrus notes.
On the palate, it is full-bodied, sweet yet well-balanced – the initial sweetness quickly meets the distinct character of anise and a gentle spicy-herbal bitterness. The finish is long, warm, and persistent, leaving pleasant traces of anise and liquorice.
Traditionally, it is served well-chilled, either neat or over ice. The classic Italian way, known as “Sambuca con la mosca,” features three coffee beans floating in the glass. The liqueur also makes an excellent digestif and is a refined ingredient in cocktails and mixed drinks.
