Luxardo Sambuca dei Cesari is a premium Italian anise liqueur, characterized by high-quality ingredients, a traditional family recipe, and an exceptionally rich flavor.
The base of this liqueur is star anise from China, herbs and spices, pure volcanic water from Luxardo springs and alcohol with sugar – all these ingredients are combined according to the original family recipe. The manufacturer emphasizes that the liqueur is still produced according to the same family recipe, with a focus on high-quality ingredients and modern production methods.
The liqueur has an alcohol content of 38% ABV. During production, essential oils from star anise are extracted through steam distillation, followed by maceration in alcohol and aging in Finnish ash barrels for about 6 months, which, according to some sources, contributes to a smoother consistency and a more balanced texture.
Flavor-wise, Sambuca dei Cesari is characterized by a crystal-clear appearance and a very intense aroma, dominated by notes of anise and sweet licorice, complemented by subtle herbal and citrus elements.
On the palate, it is full, sweet, yet well-balanced – the initial sweetness quickly meets a pronounced hint of anise and gentle spicy-herbal bitterness. The finish is long and remains anise-flavored with notes of sweet licorice.
Traditionally, it is served very well chilled, neat, or on the rocks. The classic Italian way is “Sambuca con la mosca” – three coffee beans are added to the glass. The liqueur also works excellently as a digestif, or as part of cocktails or mixed drinks.
