The history of the Luxardo brand dates back to 1821, when Girolamo Luxardo founded a distillery in the city of Zadar (now Croatia, then part of Austria-Hungary) that made the world-famous Maraschino cherry liqueur renowned. After World War II, the family estate was confiscated and the company nationalized. In 1947, Giorgio Luxardo along with the fifth generation, Nicolò III, restored the distillery in Torreglia, Italy, near Padua. Thanks to strong family cohesion, Luxardo quickly got back on its feet and its liqueurs began to be exported worldwide again.

Today, Luxardo is one of the few European distilleries still in the hands of the same family, and the seventh generation continues the founder's legacy. The brand is among the most prestigious Italian producers and exports its products to over 100 countries worldwide. Its offerings include the iconic Luxardo Maraschino and the popular Luxardo Limoncello, an original Italian liqueur made from macerated lemon peels.
