Malecon Reserva 5 Años is a young Panamanian rum inspired by Cuban tradition. It is aged for five years in oak barrels and offers a balanced profile with subtle sweetness, fruitiness and hints of wood. It is particularly suitable for mixed drinks, but is also pleasantly surprising when enjoyed neat.
This rum comes from Panama, where it is produced using traditional methods inspired by the Cuban style. It is distilled from molasses and then aged for 5 years in American white oak barrels that previously contained bourbon.
Thanks to the Panamanian climate, the aging process is faster, and after five years, the rum offers a nicely rounded flavor profile. The Malecon brand is built on quality and craftsmanship, and even younger rums like this one bear the signature of an experienced master.
Malecon Reserva 5 Años has a lighter amber color with copper highlights. The aroma reveals subtle notes of caramel, vanilla, and light fruitiness, especially banana and tropical fruit. The taste is smooth, slightly sweet, with hints of dried fruit, honey and woody tones that give the rum a youthful freshness. The finish is medium-long, smooth, with hints of vanilla and light spice.
It is best enjoyed as a base for premium cocktails, such as the classic Cuba Libre or Daiquiri. However, thanks to its smoothness, it can also be enjoyed on its own, ideally slightly chilled or with a cube of ice.
