Hampden Great House 2024
Hampden Great House 2024 refers to the Jamaican distillery house that was used as a warehouse for storing barrels in the early 20th century. It is a blend featuring the most representative brands of the distillery.
Hampden Estate is one of the oldest sugar plantations in Jamaica. Its origins date back to 1753, when the estate was owned by Mr. Archibald Sterling from Scotland. In 1779 Mr. Sterling built Hampden Great House, whose ground floor served as a rum storage until the early 20th century.
Hampden Estate is one of the oldest and most authentic distilleries in Jamaica, known for its traditional rum production with strong ester profiles, which give it a distinctive taste and aroma.
The water used in rum production is not sourced from underground aquifers, but through its own mountain water collection system, with only pure water returning to the ground after use. Long fermentation occurs using natural yeasts. Hampden Estate is one of the last distilleries still using pot still distillation for its rums; it currently operates four distillation facilities.
The oldest is John Dore, which was installed in 1960 and has a capacity of 7,560 liters. Rums mature in a tropical manner; more than 7 years in the tropical Jamaican climate, which is equivalent to 25 years of aging in Europe. Hampden rums are produced, aged, and bottled without any additives, without added sugar, tannins, caramel, or glycerin.
The flavor profile of the rum is initially richly tropical (coconut, mango, passion fruit) and perfectly matches the exotic aroma. Alternating between warm and refreshing sequences, it also offers flavors of chocolate drops, slate fragments, and mint tea.
Hampden Great House, a blend renewed every year since 2019, is the sixth opus of this exclusive series. This bottling is a tribute to the Great House distillery, which still stands in its original form.
Bottles are filled with an alcohol content of 57% with a volume of 0.7 l, delivered in stylish gift cartons.
