Arran is a modern Scottish distillery that, despite its relatively short history, has earned a strong reputation among lovers of single malt whisky. It is located on the Isle of Arran near the village of Lochranza and uses crystal-clear water from Loch na Davie, which plays a key role in the clean and fresh character of its whiskies.

The founding of the Arran distillery

The distillery was founded in 1993 on the initiative of Harold Currie, with the support of Chivas Brothers. Production officially began on 17 August 1995, placing Arran among the younger yet ambitious whisky projects in Scotland. From the outset, the focus has been on traditional production methods, transparency and a strong craft-driven approach.

From spirit to fully matured single malt whisky

The first product released in 1996 was Arran 1 Year Old Spirit, which hinted at the direction the brand would take. The distillery then fully committed itself to producing mature single malt whisky, building a reputation for a precise production process, a clean style and an emphasis on the natural character of the spirit, without chill filtration and without added colouring.

What do Arran whiskies taste like?

Arran whiskies are known for their fresh, fruity and well-balanced profile, typical of Island whisky without pronounced peaty smoke. The portfolio also includes interesting expressions matured in wine, bourbon or sherry casks, adding further layers of complexity to the spirit.
