Amazing rum Ron Zacapa Centenario Solera Gran Reserva 23 is a platinum medal winner and holds first place according to the Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago with an incredible 97 points. It comes from Guatemala and is a blend of rums aged from 6 to 23 years. The rum is produced using the Solera system - meaning that various aged rums are blended together from barrels that previously aged sherry, port wine, or cognac.
The entire production process and selection of barrels is overseen by Master Distiller Lorena Vásquez to capture specific flavors and textures as well as the perfect color. After distillation, it rests in American oak barrels at an altitude of 2438 meters above sea level, where the cool weather helps to reduce evaporation during aging.
Unlike most rums that use molasses, Zacapa rum is made from the first pressing of virgin sugar cane. This makes the rum sweeter and smoother, and it is at this moment that the characteristic properties and flavor profile of the rum begin to develop.
