Tobermory 21 Year Old is the new flagship of the Tobermory distillery from the Isle of Mull – a mature, complex whisky that was added to the official portfolio in 2022 and is distilled from unpeated malt.
The distillate is made from barley, fermented with water from the picturesque moors on the Isle of Mull.
After double distillation, it matures in traditional oak casks – initially in used oak casks for about 15 years and then for nearly 7 years in high-quality Oloroso sherry casks.
The Tobermory Distillery has deep roots – it was founded as early as 1798 (or 1823 according to different periods when it obtained its license) and is the only distillery on the Isle of Mull.
Under the current owner, Distell (formerly Burn Stewart), production has significantly expanded but remains firmly rooted in island tradition. The brand offers two main lines: the unpeated Tobermory and the peated Ledaig, both celebrating the character of the island – especially the maritime freshness and wild nature.
The nose is rich with sweet notes – toasted hazelnuts, marzipan, toffee, honey, dark chocolate, and a hint of fruit like red berries or dried plums, with a subtle undertone of leather and furniture wax.
The palate combines tropical caramelized pineapples, citrus (orange peel), dark dried fruits, marzipan, demerara sugar, gentle ginger, spices (clove, pepper), nuts, and hints of salt – marine notes are subtle and balanced. The finish is medium-long, refreshing, with sweet-salty caramel, orange, and a gentle bitter nutty aftertaste.
Bottles are filled with an alcohol content of 46.3% with a volume of 0.7 l and are delivered in gift cartons.
