Famous Grouse, one of the most popular blends in the world and the best-selling Scotch whisky in Scotland, is a very pleasantly balanced malt blend that was first produced in 1896. It was actually created by Matthew Gloag when he was asked to supply wine for a royal banquet attended by Queen Victoria.
Matthew Gloag's son William improved the blend called The Grouse and renamed it The Famous Grouse in 1905. About eighty years later, the company received the royal warrant Royal Warrant. This blend is very high quality for the price and also fits beautifully into whisky cocktails. It is excellent.
The aroma of the whisky is a light scent offering notes of caramelized apples, hints of dried flowers, and biscuit-like barley. The taste is a balanced flavor full of biscuits with a core of rich and creamy malt. A hint of spice and the faintest whisper of smoke brings great complexity.
