Takamaka St André Extra Noir is a distinctive dark rum from Seychelles, part of the St André Series. This series showcases the artisanal approach of the Takamaka brand, its Creole heritage, and a taste for experimenting with unconventional methods in rum production. The Takamaka brand originates from Seychelles, where the Trois Frères Distillery was established in 2002.
The rum is created as a blend of pot still and column still molasses rum. During production, it is allowed to interact with French oak and is then pressed together with wood from French oak and bourbon wood. Finally, the rum rests for 60 days in barrels that previously held French rum agricole, giving it a deeper, spicier, and more complex character.
In aroma and taste, it is full, intense, and spicy. It brings notes of vanilla, sweet wood, spices, and a subtly funky ester rum character, complemented by a sweet hint from the bourbon wood. With an alcohol content of 43%, the absence of added sugar, and no cold filtration, it feels natural, robust, and authentic.
Takamaka Extra Noir is ideal for those seeking a dark rum with a more pronounced character. It shines in mixed drinks, especially as a rum & ginger, in long drinks, or in a classic highball, where its full body, spiciness, and vanilla notes can beautifully unfold.
