The Singleton is a brand of Scottish single malt whisky, which belongs to the portfolio of Diageo. It is interesting because under this name, there are three different distilleries – Dufftown, Glen Ord, and Glendullan – each producing whisky for different markets and with slightly different styles.

The name Singleton first appeared in the 19th century, when the Auchroisk distillery used this name for its whisky. A few decades later, Diageo decided to create a unified brand from this name for several of its distilleries to reach the widest possible audience.

Today, The Singleton is not a single distillery, but a common brand umbrella for three producers:
The Singleton of Dufftown (Speyside) – focused on Europe,
The Singleton of Glen Ord (Highlands) – distributed mainly in Asia,
The Singleton of Glendullan (Speyside) – aimed primarily at the American market.
With this division, Diageo has managed to build a brand that has a global reach while maintaining regional nuances and different flavor profiles.

All three distilleries work with traditional methods of Scottish single malt production – that is, distillation from 100% malted barley in copper pot stills and aging in oak casks. The differences come in the details:

Dufftown – known for smooth, malty whiskies with notes of dried fruit and nuts, often aged in sherry casks.
Glen Ord – whisky has a fuller character, oilier texture, and more spicy notes; often aged in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks.
Glendullan – lighter, fresher style, emphasizing vanilla, citrus, and honey, making it more accessible for beginners.

The Singleton brand is known for being built as an “entry level” single malt – that is, whisky aimed at people who are just starting with the category. Therefore, there is an emphasis on smoothness, sweetness, accessibility, and less extreme flavor profiles compared to peaty or intensely oaky whiskies.

The brand's slogan is often associated with the idea that whisky should be shared – Singleton positions itself as a social, not elitist whisky. Glen Ord is the only distillery within Diageo that still produces its own malt (floor maltings). Singleton is among the best-selling single malt whiskies in the world – even though many do not realize it, as it operates divided into three names by regions.
