Rum Nine Leaves Ex-Spanish Oak Single Cask Distilled 2018 aged for 7 years in a single Spanish oak cask, which imparted an original and vibrant aromatic profile. This is a single cask edition, making each bottle an authentic reflection of the specific cask.

Behind the Nine Leaves brand is Yoshiharu Takeuchi, who personally managed the entire production process at the distillery for many years – from moving casks to bottling. At the end of 2023, he decided to close the distillery. A few months later, all stocks of aging rums and the last batch of white rums were purchased by La Maison & Velier, which today continues to build and develop his exceptional legacy.

The Nine Leaves rums are made from pure underground spring water and traditional Japanese sugar Kokuto from Okinawa, which gives them a distinctive depth. Fermentation lasts about four days, developing a rich aromatic base.

Distillation takes place in two Forsyth’s copper pot stills – one inspired by the Chichibu style, the other by the Glenmorangie style. This combination brings extraordinary balance and supports the aromatic complexity of the resulting distillate. After distillation, the rums age in various types of casks at two locations – in a warehouse with significant temperature fluctuations and in an abandoned mine with high humidity and low temperature, which greatly influences their development.

The aroma is deep and surprising – revealing medicinal notes of cardamom, saffron, red orange, and mango, complemented by hints of walnuts and chestnuts. Gradually, nuances of fig, incense, cocoa powder, and Havana cigar emerge.

The taste is rich, full, and distinctly structured. Initially, notes of pine resin, burnt cane sugar, camphor, and a subtle asphalt hint appear, transitioning into salty and mineral tones with hints of sweet wood, earthiness, and curry spices. The finish is dense, long, and complex, with lingering notes of sweet wood, sandalwood, incense, and delicate cardamom tea.

This distinctive Japanese rum is intended for experienced tasters seeking an extraordinary tasting experience and an original expression of craftsmanship. It is a collector's attractive piece that represents the pinnacle of the Nine Leaves brand's creation.
