Nikka Yoichi Single Malt Whisky + 2 Year Old
Nikka Yoichi Single Malt is a distinctive Japanese single malt whisky from Nikka's first distillery, founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru in Yoichi on the island of Hokkaido. This location was chosen because of its similar climatic conditions to the Scottish coastline, allowing for the creation of whiskies with robust character. Yoichi Single Malt is known for its smoky profile, which is the result of traditional distillation on a direct charcoal fire and maturation close to the sea, which adds subtle savoury notes.
The flavour profile of this whisky is complex and balanced. Notes of peat, smoke, soot and saltiness emerge on the nose, which gradually develop into candied citrus fruits such as lemon and orange. They are complemented by liquorice, nutmeg and ginger, with floral notes of iris and carnation.
The palate is dominated by peat and smokiness, followed by notes of nuts and fresh fruits such as melon and kiwi. In the mid-palate, sweet chocolate traces emerge, while the peatiness lingers. The finish is long and silky, with fruity notes that gradually give way to a herbal and malty character, while the saltiness adds depth and coastal freshness to the whole whisky.
The design of the Nikka Yoichi Single Malt bottle is elegant and reflects traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The bottle has a simple yet sophisticated look with clean lines and a minimalist style that emphasizes the quality of the contents. The label carries the distillery name and information about the whisky, while the overall design looks timeless and dignified.
