Mother's Day, which we have been celebrating in Slovakia since 1989, is slowly approaching us and is one of the most popular of all. On this day, we can thank our mothers, wives or grandmothers for loving and caring for us.
However, Mother's Day has a very long history outside Slovakia and was officially established in early 1907 in America in honor of Anna Reeves Jarvis, who fought for the rights of mothers. In 1914, then-US President Woodrow Wilson announced the first official Mother's Day celebration as a national holiday, always held on the second Sunday in May.
