Matusalem Sublime Kiku is among the most exclusive creations in the history of the Matusalem brand. It is the second edition of the Sublime – A Journey Through Traditions collection, which connects different cultures, craftsmanship traditions, and aging styles through barrel work.
Its journey begins with a combination of rums from American oak barrels previously used for bourbon, working in a 20-year Solera system, and rums from Spanish sherry casks with a static aging of 10 years. The rum then continues to France, where it spends more than two years in barrels made from French oak previously used for Premier Grand Cru Bordeaux wine.
The final aging stage takes place in Japan in barrels that previously contained Junmai sake. This final phase completes the journey connecting America, Spain, France, and Japan.
The name Kiku refers to the Japanese chrysanthemum – a flower traditionally associated with imperial symbolism, longevity, and nobility. Japanese inspiration is therefore present not only in the last type of barrels but also in the artistic processing of the edition itself.
Sublime Kiku was created in just 600 individually numbered pieces for the entire world. Each bottle is housed in a crystal decanter crafted by the Portuguese manufacturer Vista Alegre and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Included in the packaging is also an exclusive artwork by Japanese artist Mari Ito, elevating Sublime Kiku beyond a classic premium rum and making it a collectible item.
Bottled at a strength of 40% alcohol.
