Maker’s Mark 46 is a premium American bourbon that builds on the traditional style of the Maker’s Mark brand, but offers a more pronounced and complex flavor profile. It is made from soft winter wheat instead of rye, which gives it smoothness and softness.
The first expansion of the Maker's Mark line took place in the 1950s. Maker's 46 is essentially a standard whiskey with extra added spice. However, the producer does not intend to compete with the classic release. It is something for those who enjoy spicy bourbon. The spicy dimension of this whiskey ages in barrels with the distinctive name 46, after which the whiskey is also named.
Its uniqueness lies in the additional aging – special toasted staves from French oak are placed in the barrels, which impart more intense notes of vanilla, caramel, and spice. This process takes place during the cooler months to achieve maximum flavor balance.
The result is a full and balanced bourbon with a rich character, where sweet and spicy notes intertwine. Maker’s Mark 46 is ideal for slow sipping neat or on the rocks, but it also works wonderfully in premium cocktails.
