The story of Maker’s Mark began in 1953, when Bill Samuels Sr. set out to create a bourbon that would be smooth, balanced, and easy to enjoy. Unlike traditional recipes, he replaced rye in the corn mash bill with red winter wheat, resulting in a bourbon whiskey with a naturally sweet character and no harshness. This innovation brought the world its first premium bourbon and forever changed the perception of American whiskey.

The iconic bottle and Margie Samuels’ touch

The distinctive identity of Maker’s Mark was shaped by Margie Samuels, the founder’s wife. She designed the square bottle with its handwritten label and the signature red wax seal that is still hand-dipped today. Thanks to her, Maker’s Mark became not only a fine bourbon but also an icon of design and craftsmanship.

Traditional craft from Star Hill Farm

Every barrel of Maker’s Mark is hand-rotated and aged to taste, not to time at the historic Star Hill Farm distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. The use of pure limestone water from local springs gives the bourbon its unique clarity and refreshing character.
