Glenfiddich Fire & Cane Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Add a tasting glass and elevate your experience to the next level!
Glenfiddich Fire & Cane is the fourth edition of the Experimental Series, a series where Glenfiddich experiments with less traditional methods and flavor combinations. For Fire & Cane, Malt Master Brian Kinsman decided to combine two worlds that typically do not meet in Glenfiddich – peaty smoke and the sweetness of rum casks.
The base is a blend of Glenfiddich's peaty whisky with softer, sweeter, and fruitier malt whiskies that have matured in bourbon casks. This whisky then undergoes a finish in Latin American rum casks, which add a more pronounced caramel and toffee sweetness.
The result is not a typical heavy and medicinal peaty whisky. The smoke is rather gentle and reminiscent of a distant campfire, while the fruity character of Glenfiddich remains well recognizable. The taste combines toffee, oak, green fruit, and baked apple with soft smoke.
Fire & Cane has no age statement and is bottled at 43% alcohol by volume. It is precisely the combination of sweet rum finish and peat that makes it one of the most distinctive whiskies in the Glenfiddich portfolio.
Recommended Serving
I would recommend tasting Fire & Cane neat at room temperature in a tasting glass. A few drops of water can help open up the sweeter fruity and caramel notes.
It is particularly suitable for someone who wants to enter the world of peaty whiskies but does not want to start with a very intense Islay style – the smoke here is balanced with sweetness and fruit.
