Don Julio 1942 Añejo
Don Julio Añejo 1942 is made from carefully selected, hand-picked blue agave piñas that have been grown for 7-10 years. Don Julio 1942 Añejo was launched in 2002 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Don Julio González-Frausto Estrada distillery.
The agave is slowly baked for approximately 70 hours in brick ovens, then fermented in stainless steel tanks with its own yeast and double distilled in small copper stills. The tequila is then aged for at least 30 months in American white oak barrels that previously held beer or bourbon, giving it a warm vanilla-caramel profile.
Don Julio 1942 is celebrated as a luxury tequila, often used as an exclusive gift or for special occasions.
However, the brand is the subject of debate among connoisseurs – frequent comments point to its distinctly sweet profile, and there is speculation that it contains additives to enhance sweetness and consistency (e.g. glycerine, vanilla extracts, sweeteners), which some consider to be a factor in "masking" the agave flavor. Nevertheless, many appreciate its consistent quality and smoothness.
The bottles are filled with 38 % alcohol by volume, have a volume of 0.7 l, and are delivered in gift boxes.
