Cubaney Estupendo 15 is a Dominican dark rum that is aged for approximately 15 years using the traditional Solera method. It is distilled from high-quality sugar cane molasses and then aged in a combination of American oak ex-bourbon barrels and French ex-wine barrels, which gives it a rich aromatic profile and the terroir of tropical islands.
It has a light chestnut to mahogany color, indicating deep and mature tones. The first sniff reveals an intense aroma of oak, followed by vanilla, caramel and roasted nuts, especially almonds – these aromas are supported by subtle fruity accents of tropical dried fruits.
The taste of Cubaney 15 is balanced and complex – caramel with the sweetness of sugar cane intertwines with roasted almonds and a delicately spicy tone. Some reviews also point to hints of apricot or dried fruit, a pleasantly elegant and mature taste that finishes slowly and gently, with a sweet finish and a slight oak warmth.
The Solera aging policy means that the age information ("15 years") indicates the average age of the component rums, which is in accordance with Dominican regulations. However, some consumers point to the high sweetness and relatively low emphasis on more complex flavors, which they say may characterize the rum as a sweet mixed drink rather than a complex spirit.
The bottles are filled with 38 % alcohol by volume, have a volume of 0,7 l and are delivered in gift boxes.
