Craigellachie 17 Year Old is traditionally produced in the Scottish region of Speyside, at a small distillery founded in 1891 at the confluence of the Spey and Fiddich rivers.
It specifically uses worm tubs – old-fashioned copper condensers that attract a distinctive flavor and give the drink a robust, almost "buttery" texture.
The whisky is distilled and then aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, with 50% of the blend maturing in a first-fill Sherry cask and the remainder in a first-fill Bourbon cask, all without flavoring or chill filtration, at a strength of 46% ABV.
On the nose, we can detect notes of vanilla, exotic fruits (especially candied pineapple), with subtle hints of smoky undertones and herbal remedies. On the palate, this whisky is dominated by gentle sweetness, balanced by smoky aftertaste, caramel, chocolate, and spicy notes like black pepper and chestnut spice. The finish is quite long – with echoes of citrus, spice, and a hint of smoke.
Craigellachie has long been known as a robust branded whisky, which throughout its history has primarily served as a component in blends, especially in Dewar’s. In 2014, the brand began releasing its own carefully curated age-declared editions – and the 17-year-old has become a cornerstone preparing the backdrop for the continuation of this tradition. The aim of the product line is to showcase the character of the whisky in its purest form – without additional additives and compromises.
