Craigellachie 17 Year Old
Craigellachie 17 Year Old is produced in the traditional way in the Scottish region of Speyside, in a small distillery founded in 1891 at the confluence of the Spey and Fiddich rivers.
It uses special worm tubs – old-fashioned copper condensers that bring out the distinctive flavour and give the drink a robust, almost buttery texture.
The whisky is distilled and then matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, with 50 % of the blend maturing in first-fill Sherry casks and the rest in first-fill Bourbon casks, all without flavouring or chill filtration, at 46 % ABV.
The aroma has notes of vanilla, exotic fruit (especially candied pineapple), with subtle hints of smoke and medicinal herbs. The palate is dominated by a gentle sweetness, balanced by smoky notes, caramel, chocolate and spicy tones such as black pepper and chestnut. The finish is relatively long, with notes of citrus, spice and a hint of smoke.
Craigellachie has long been known as a robust brand whisky, which throughout its history has mainly been used as a component in blends, particularly in Dewar's. In 2014, the brand began releasing its own carefully blended editions with a declared age, and the 17-year-old became the cornerstone for continuing this tradition. The aim of the product range is to showcase the character of the whisky in its purest form – without additives or compromises.
