Black Bottle 10 Year Old is a more mature and complex version of the iconic Scottish blended whisky, whose history dates back to 1879. At its heart lies a high proportion of malt whiskies, including peaty distillates from the Isle of Islay.
The recipe combines intensely smoky malt whiskies, among which the peaty Bunnahabhain Mòine has its place, with gentler non-smoky malt whiskies and grain whiskies aged in bourbon casks. Additional depth is brought by casks with medium to heavily charred interiors and virgin oak, which imparts notes of vanilla, caramel, and wood to the final profile.
The aroma reveals ripe pears, sweet apples, honey, oak wood, and aromatic peaty smoke. The taste connects fresh green apple with cookie caramel, vanilla, and spice. The fruity sweetness gradually gives way to darker smoke, smoldering embers, and a gentle sea saltiness.
The result is a balanced and approachable smoky whisky that offers enough character for Islay lovers, yet does not come across as intensely as distinctly peaty single malt whiskies. Alcohol content 40% and ten years of aging give it a softer, rounder expression.
Black Bottle 10 Year Old has won gold medals at the World Whiskies Awards 2022, International Spirits Challenge 2023, and The Global Scotch Whisky Masters 2023.
