Description

Ardnahoe Bholsa is the second official whisky from the new Ardnahoe distillery on the island of Islay, Scotland. It is bottled at cask strength 50 % ABV, matured mainly in Oloroso sherry casks, without added colouring and without chill filtration.

Bholsa is inspired by the Bholsa caves located near the distillery.

The aroma features notes of red fruit (plums, red berries, cherries), roasted nuts, orange peel, and the subtle smoke/peat typical of Islay whisky. The base is formed by sweet aromas of sweet malt, vanilla and Oloroso sherry.

The taste is full and well-structured – fruits such as raisins and plums, dark fruit notes from sherry, spicy moments (e.g. black pepper, a pinch of nutmeg), plus peat and subtle sea notes or mineral saltiness. At the same time, there are notes of vanilla and oak from the casks, which bring depth and a solid foundation.

We recommend serving it neat at room temperature, in a suitable whisky glass (Glencairn/tulip) to allow the aroma to fully develop. If 50% seems too strong, a few drops of water can help open up sweeter and fruitier notes. It is also suitable as a dramatic experience when tasting with friends or as a conclusion to an evening.

Jon Rye Wanted is a brand new whiskey that does not try to compete with Scottish or Irish legends with their history and myths. Instead of endless stories about pedigree and old barrels, it brings something bolder – a pure taste and a rebellious attitude. How did it actually come about? The idea of…
