Admiral's Page 1 of 1

Admiral's, formerly known as Admiral Rodney, is a brand of premium molasses rums from the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia. It is produced by the St. Lucia Distillers, known for its emphasis on traditional production methods and the distinctive style of aged Caribbean rums. The brand continues today under the shortened name Admiral's, while maintaining its heritage, nautical theme, and the character of the rums that customers have come to love under the name Admiral Rodney. The production is based on the distillation of molasses using a Coffey still, utilizing distillates from the lower parts of the column for a fuller and more pronounced flavor profile. The subsequent aging in oak barrels adds complexity, depth, and typical notes of spice, wood, and dried fruit to the rums.

The History of the Admiral Rodney Brand and Its New Name Admiral's

The history of the brand traces back to the legacy of British Admiral George Brydges Rodney, who became famous for his victory over the French fleet in the Battle of Îles des Saintes in 1782. The original name Admiral Rodney was created in his honor, and the individual rums were named after significant ships associated with his fleet. The renaming to Admiral's represents the continuation of the same rum brand under a new identity, not the creation of a completely new producer. The rums thus continue the tradition of the St. Lucia Distillers and maintain a connection to the maritime history of the Caribbean. The differences between the various editions primarily lie in the aging duration, the barrels used, and the resulting flavor character.

Discover Admiral's Rums – Formidable, Royal Oak, and Princess

Among the more prominent rums in the collection is the Admiral's Formidable, which ages for 10 to 15 years in American white oak barrels. It features a rich and complex profile with notes of raisins, honey, vanilla, chocolate, tobacco, and spice. A balanced alternative is the Admiral's Royal Oak, a blend of rums aged 6 to 12 years in bourbon barrels, offering notes of dried plums, raisins, caramel, and spicy oak. Completing the trio is the Admiral's Princess, whose aging in bourbon and port wine barrels brings a softer, fruitier character with notes of honeyed raisins, vanilla, chocolate, and spice. Each of these editions represents a different expression of aged rum from Saint Lucia and offers an opportunity to explore the diversity of the Admiral's, formerly Admiral Rodney brand.
