As early as 1838, Albert Henrich Riise was officially appointed by the Danish government as the exclusive pharmacist of Saint Thomas Island. He was granted a monopoly status for producing and distributing alcohol in his pharmacy. No wonder. His products were not only excellent but also treated many ailments, especially stomach issues.
