As early as 1838, Albert Henrich Riise was officially appointed by the Danish government to be the exclusive pharmacist on the island of Saint Thomas. They granted him a monopoly status on the production and distribution of alcohol in his pharmacy. No wonder. Its products were not only excellent, but treated many diseases, especially stomach problems.
