Včelovina is a Slovak brand of mead produced in Smolenice at the foot of the Little Carpathians. The brand is backed by Včelco, a company founded in 2007 by three friends and beekeepers. Their shared story goes even further back – to a beekeeping club in Trstín, where they gained their first experiences with beekeeping. The Smolenice region has a long tradition of beekeeping, as nearby in Naháč, Juraj Fándly, the author of historical works dedicated to beekeeping, also operated.

What makes Včelovina special?

Včelovina is a mead that stands out from many common meads primarily due to its production method. It ferments at low temperatures around 17 °C, which helps preserve the flavor and aromatic properties of the honey in the drink. Up to three types of honey are used in its production, and the manufacturer does not use chemical preservatives, aromas, or stabilizers. The base consists of honey, water, and a controlled fermentation process that gives Včelovina its characteristic sweetness and honey profile.

From classic Včelovina to barrel aging

The brand's offering includes classic meads Včelovina Original and Včelovina Špeciál, as well as unconventional versions where the mead gains additional layers of flavor through barrel aging. Among them, you will find Včelovina Barrique, Rum Barrel Aged, and Whiskey Barrel Aged. The manufacturer thus connects traditional mead production with more modern methods and shows that mead does not have to be just a sweet seasonal drink, but can offer diverse styles and flavor profiles.
