The brand Spot Whiskeys has its roots in Dublin, where in 1805 the Mitchell family opened a grocery and confectionery store. In 1887, they expanded into a wine and spirits shop on Kildare Street.
At that time, it was common for merchants to buy spirits in raw form and age them in their own casks. Mitchell & Son utilized empty casks from wine, sherry, and port, which they filled with distillate from the Jameson distillery on Bow Street. These casks were marked with colored dots according to the age of the whiskey – blue for 7 years, green for 10 years, yellow for 12 years and red for 15 years – which inspired the name "Spot" whiskey.
Today, Spot Whiskeys are produced at Midleton Distillery in County Cork, while still maintaining the traditional aging method in a combination of casks from various types of sherry and bourbon. Among the most well-known variants are Green Spot,Yellow Spot, Red Spot, and Blue Spot. These whiskeys are affordable yet offer exceptional quality and complexity of flavors.
