Shakara 15 Year Old represents a more advanced and complex version of Thai rum. The brand is backed by La Maison & Velier, a joint project of the French La Maison du Whisky and the Italian Velier, focusing on authentic distillates with a distinct origin and character.
Rum is produced in the province Nakhon Pathom in central Thailand from molasses sourced from local sugarcane. It is distilled in a column still and then ages for a full 15 years in bourbon barrels right in the tropical climate of Thailand.
The high temperatures and humidity accelerate the rum's contact with the wood and increase the evaporation rate. The result is a concentrated yet balanced profile with a silky texture, fruity freshness, and pronounced notes of wood, spice, and roasted cocoa. The producer presents Shakara as an authentic rum with no added additives.
The aroma unfolds with salty buttery caramel, mango, chocolate, beeswax, cherries, and apricots. The taste is lively, subtly spicy, and brings cocoa, ginger, resin, orange peel, mango, and wild strawberries. The rich finish transitions from caramelized apricot pie to chestnuts, sweet licorice, and fresh herbal notes.
Shakara 15 Year Old is suitable for lovers of longer tropical-aged rums who seek a drier and more complex character without excessive sweetness. It shines best neat at room temperature, or with a few drops of water.
