Ramazzotti Amaro
Amaro Ramazzotti is a herbal liqueur created in 1815 in the heart of Milan. A young visionary, Ausano Ramazzotti, crafted Italy’s first liqueur without a wine base, using a secret recipe made from 33 herbs, spices, fruits, and flowers sourced from around the world. Despite the political unrest and shortage of ingredients in Italy at the time, he succeeded in creating something truly unique – a drink that was bitter, sweet, citrusy, and spicy all at once. Thanks to the balanced blend of quinine from the Peruvian Andes, rhubarb from China, gentian from Central Europe, and sweet orange peels, Ramazzotti developed its distinctive and harmonious flavour.
It belongs to the category of amaro liqueurs – traditional Italian bitter digestifs enjoyed after meals or in cocktails. Its aroma is dominated by herbs, citrus, and earthy notes. The taste is intense and bittersweet, with hints of orange. Whether sipped neat or over ice, Ramazzotti is also excellent with tonic, orange peel, or as part of a spritz-style drink.
Ramazzotti is a symbol of the Italian lifestyle – positive, vibrant, and social. In the 19th century, the first Ramazzotti Amaro venue opened near Milan’s iconic Duomo di Milano. In the 20th century, its advertising featured posters by renowned artists, and in the 1980s it became an icon thanks to the slogan “Milano da bere”. Today, over 200 years later, Ramazzotti remains one of the most famous Italian amaro liqueurs in the world, still made with the same recipe, the same passion, and the same mission: to bring the taste of Italy into every glass.
