Overproof rum is a term for rums with an exceptionally high alcohol content – usually over 57.5% ABV (alcohol by volume). The name comes from the British naval system of measuring alcohol strength, where it was tested whether rum could "pass the test of fire." That is, whether it is strong enough to ignite. This is where the term overproof originated, literally meaning "above proof."

What makes overproof rum special

Unlike classic rums (around 40%), overproof rums are diluted only minimally or not at all. They retain their original strength after distillation and offer an intense, authentic flavor.
