Old Monk Gold Reserve 12 Year Old is a premium version of the iconic Indian rum that embodies tradition, depth and character. It is aged for at least 12 years in oak barrels, giving it a significantly more complex flavour profile than its younger 7-year-old sibling. Made from molasses, this dark rum retains its natural mahogany colour and authentic character without artificial additives.
The aroma is dominated by a combination of vanilla, caramel and roasted nuts, complemented by notes of tropical fruit, molasses and hints of dark chocolate. Pleasant subtle spicy undertones, such as cinnamon, cloves and even a hint of coriander, complete its aromatic richness.
The taste is full and harmonious, opening with a sweet attack of burnt caramel, molasses and syrup, accompanied by notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit and vanilla. Gradually, subtle smoky and spicy nuances emerge, giving the rum character and balance between sweetness and dryness.
The finish is medium to long, drier than the 7-year-old version, with lingering woody notes, hints of spice and a hint of cocoa. The body is medium-full, smooth, with a slightly oily texture, making it an excellent rum for slow sipping or as a premium base for cocktails.
