Monkey 47 Distiller's Cut 2024 0,5l
Monkey 47 Distiller's Cut 2024 is a limited edition gin from the heart of the Black Forest, which each year adds a unique "48th botanical" to the already famous list of 47 plants. This year, the producer has opted for capers from the island of Pantelleria, creating a gin with a distinctly earthy, green and salty character. This is a creation for true connoisseurs and lovers of unusual flavors, ideal especially in a dry Martini.
The production process is precise and exceptionally refined. The base is made up of 47 classic hand-picked botanicals, including citrus fruits, juniper, cranberries, and herbs from the Black Forest. The capers, which were added as this year's "Species Rara," are harvested while still unopened, then dried and double salted. This gives them a sweet, nutty and slightly spicy character.
After thorough rinsing, these capers are macerated together with the other botanicals in a mixture of pure alcohol and spring water. The resulting mixture is distilled in small copper stills, then percolated to impart delicate aromas to the distillate, and finally aged for about 100 days in clay pots. This process ensures that the flavors are harmonized and the overall expression is softened.
The aroma of the gin is distinctly juniper with fresh pine needles and a subtle citrus accent reminiscent of dried lemon peel and grapefruit. Capers add a distinctly salty and earthy tone, which is harmoniously complemented by notes of rosemary, black pepper, and subtle floral undertones.
The taste is dry, spicy, and unmistakably "green," with an earthy body and a slightly salty finish reminiscent of green olives and herbs such as sage, mint, and juniper. The finish reveals an elegant combination of sea freshness, nutty depth and herbal spiciness that lingers for a medium length of time and invites another sip.
Behind the Monkey 47 brand is the Black Forest Distillers distillery, whose story began with the original recipe by Montgomery Collins. The gin is produced in the heart of Germany's Black Forest, and their approach is dominated by an emphasis on quality, craftsmanship and innovative approaches.
The annual Distiller's Cut edition is a celebration of creativity and a reference to the "Wunderbar" philosophy – one botanical experiment in exclusive packaging every year. The 2024 edition also stands out visually – the elegant green label reflects the caper motif and the entire packaging is made from FSC-certified materials.
The bottles are filled with 47 % alcohol and have a volume of 0,5 l.
