The Dom Pérignon champagne brand has its origins in the legendary Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon (1638-1715), who was cellar master at the Hautvillers monastery in the Champagne region of France. The modern Dom Pérignon brand was only launched in 1936. Moët & Chandon began using the Dom Pérignon name for its prestigious Champagne, which is made exclusively from grapes from the best vineyards and only in the best vintages.
