Sect

Sect, or sometimes sparkling wine, is the name of an alcoholic beverage produced by the primary or secondary fermentation of wine or must. Sect is a sparkling beverage that is stored in glass bottles with a cork or plastic cap that can be squeezed out of the bottle by the pressure of the sparkling wine.

The term sparkling wine is taken from Germany, where it has been used since the 18th century. The term sparkling wine is sometimes confused with Champagne wine, a term that can only be used for wines from the Champagne region of France. It has been a protected appellation since 1908. Other sparkling wines include Spanish cava, Italian prosecco, lambrusco and asti spumante.
