Single malt whisky or single malt whiskey is considered the pinnacle of Scottish distilling artistry. It is made exclusively from malted barley, water, and yeast – at a single distillery. How single malt whisky is made

The foundation is malted barley, which is often dried over a peat fire, giving the whisky its characteristic smoky note. After double distillation, the distillate is aged in oak casks for at least three years, but the best ones mature for several decades. Each cask shapes the flavor differently: bourbon casks impart vanilla notes, while sherry casks bring dried fruits and nuts.

Single malt whisky can be smooth, fruity, and elegant, but also heavy, smoky, and bold.
