Scallywag
Big Peat is gone and you have given a reliable kick in the form of an elegant fox terrier with a monocle! Douglas Laing's Scallywag is a sour malt whiskey made from Speyside whiskey, including Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes. Many of the whiskeys used in this small edition come from Spanish sherry barrels, which gives Scallywag a stunning sweetness, which in this blend is balanced by a bit of whiskey from "naughty bourbon barrels."
Aroma: Sweetness pops up like a happy puppy. Ground sugar, raisins and candied ginger. Where-are a few hints of grain, but the smell is dominated by sweetness.
Taste: The sweetness surprisingly subsides and reveals nutmeg and cereals. Vanilla comes almost at the end. Also cinnamon, thanks to which this drink has a spicy sting.
Conclusion: A pinch of oak pepper is combined with vanilla and sherry in the finish.
Overall impression: Incredibly pleasant. Scallywag is an absolute pleasure in every sense.
