Dom Thierry Ruinart was an intuitive, visionary, hardworking, and humble Benedictine monk who lived from 1657 to 1709 and was a contemporary of Louis XIV.

As a brilliant theologian and historian, he left his home in Champagne at the age of 23 and went to the abbey Saint-Germain-des-Prés, one of the most influential centers of learning near Paris.

During his stay, he came into contact with the city and the court, where he became aware of a more worldly life. Specifically, he learned about a new "sparkling wine" that was not yet known as champagne and which was already popular among young aristocrats.

Nicolas Ruinart on September 1, 1729 in Reims, in the heart of the Champagne region, drafted the founding charter of Maison Ruinart, thus creating the very first company in the world to produce champagne.

This led to a business that thrives and prospers even nearly three hundred years later. The intuition of his uncle, the monk who first showed him the way, inspired the initiative that would enter history.

In the mid-18th century the Ruinart company acquired ancient cellars dug beneath the city of Reims for storing its bottles.

In 1764 the house sent its first champagne Rosé across Europe. The family, which was ennobled in 1817 and took the name Ruinart de Brimont, led the house continuously for more than two centuries.

Each generation reveals a head of the family with a specific talent dedicated to serving the descendants.
