Pálava is an aromatic variety of white wine, bred in Moravia by crossing Tramín červený and Müller-Thurgau. It was developed in the 1970s by the breeder Josef Veverka and is named after the Pálava Protected Landscape Area. The variety quickly spread to Slovakia, where it produces rich, fragrant, and harmonious wines with a subtly exotic character.

Characteristics of Pálava Berries and Taste

Pálava berries are medium-sized, yellow-green to golden-yellow, with a thinner skin and distinctive aromatics even during ripening. The wines are typically fuller-bodied, with lower acidity and a rich fruit expression. They most often present notes of lychee, roses, citrus, grape must, and subtle spicy nuances. In dry versions, Pálava appears elegantly aromatic, while in semi-sweet and sweet styles, it gains a more pronounced honey-floral character.
