Lowland single malt whisky Ailsa Bay Page 1 of 1

Lowland single malt whisky comes from the south of Scotland – from the region lying between the borders of England and the Highland. This land is known for its smoother, delicate whisky, which differs from the bold peaty styles of the north.

Smoothness and elegance of the south

Lowland whisky is light, fresh, and often has a floral or herbal character. In the production process, coal is used instead of peat, giving it a cleaner profile without smoky notes. It is also characterized by triple distillation, where the distillate passes through three devices – resulting in an exceptionally smooth and fine texture.

Tasting profile of Lowland whisky

The flavor is dominated by notes of grain, honey, flowers, vanilla, and citrus. It is an ideal style for those who are new to whisky or prefer a lighter, more elegant character. Some distilleries experiment with a subtle touch of peat, adding depth without losing delicacy.
