The brand Kirk & Sweeney is named after the famous wooden schooner that smuggled rum from the Caribbean to the northeastern United States during Prohibition – particularly to the Long Island and New York area. The ship was renowned for anchoring outside the three-mile zone patrolled by the Coast Guard, allowing merchants to safely pick up their cargo, and was later reportedly seized off the coast of New York with a massive amount of rum. Thus, the brand embodies the spirit of adventure, bold stories, and the historical elegance of smuggling times.

Kirk & Sweeney rum is produced in the Dominican Republic, specifically in Santiago de los Caballeros, at the renowned distillery J. Armando Bermúdez - one of the oldest and largest distilleries in the country.

The production adheres to strict criteria for the designation “Dominican Rum”: high-quality raw materials are processed, primarily sugarcane and molasses. This is followed by traditional distillation, gradual aging in oak barrels (both American and French), and precise blending (the so-called average age process), overseen by the master blender.

The Kirk & Sweeney brand was launched in 2012 by 35 Maple Street, part of The Other Guys (later renamed to 3 Badge Beverage Corporation) based in Sonoma, California. In 2015, the company underwent rebranding, giving the brand a new dynamic home. The brand continues the family tradition of the Sebastiani company, whose wine history dates back five generations – thus carrying the architecture of tradition, family identity, and the quality of accessible luxury.
