Grüner Veltliner Chateau Rúbaň Page 1 of 1

Grüner Veltliner is one of the most typical Central European varieties of white wine. In the world, you may encounter its alternative names, such as Grüner Veltliner (Austria), Veltliner (other regions), or Zöldveltelini (Hungary). The variety is known for its freshness, subtle spiciness, and light yellow color.

Origin of the variety and berry characteristics

Grüner Veltliner has its historical origin mainly in Austria, where it is considered a national variety. However, it also thrives in Slovakia and Moravia. The berries of the variety are medium-sized, green-yellow, with a thinner skin and higher juice content. In warmer years, they acquire a slightly golden-yellow hue.

What does Grüner Veltliner taste like?

It most often brings notes of green apple, citrus, pear, and the characteristic spiciness that is typical for the variety. Wines from cooler regions have a fresher acidity and pronounced minerality, while warmer regions produce fuller body, softer texture, and a slight touch of honeyed notes.

How to serve Grüner Veltliner

Grüner Veltliner pairs excellently with fish, white meat, salads, cold dishes, or pasta. Serve well chilled. We recommend trying Grüner Veltliner from the winery Chateau Rúbaň or Mrva & Stanko.
